Policoro Castle stands on top of a hill, dominating the beautiful town of Policoro. Built around the 11th century by Basilian monks, the castle became a stronghold and expanded with the construction of a tower, mighty defensive walls.

The Rabatana (from 'Rabhàdi', on Arabs word meening hamlet ) is situated on a hill in the highlest part of the village located at the highest point of the country and is literally surrounded on all sides by deep ravines which are inaccessible and the wonderful world of 'Jaramme' sung by the poet Albino Pierro. Lies 305 m above sea level, overlooking the picturesque Agri and Sinni valley . Rabatana was the living quarter which has preserved the original dialect and customs of ancient times owing to its position and distance from the village. It is an interesting places to visit for foreign tourist as well as for Italian visitors thanks to the famous poet Albino Pierro who found there a source of inspiration for his poetry made up from childhood and images evoking an ancient world now know all over the world.

The museum, opened in 1969, is located inside the archaeological park, and exhibits remains relating to ages documenting of human presence in the area, from the Neolithic to the Romanization of the Greek colony of Herakleia. Recently reorganized, the museum provides a comprehensive cronological path through all the subseguent civilizations . The Right space is also given to the native populations Basilicata (Enotri) , with a section describing diacronic trend with the development of these cultures. The city of Metaponto, the ancient and glorious Achaean colony from the seventh century. BC , houses the archaeological park with the sacred area, and the remains of three temples and the ancient theater.
